During the last few days I have been on holiday to London! I forget how much walking you do in London – yesterday I did something like 17,000 steps yesterday going round places like the British museum!
Anyway, I decided to do a painting of the hotel room, outside the window. I would have done a lot more sketching in London, but I forgot to bring my sketchbook! (I just have my watercolour sketchbook which I don’t really want to use for drawing.)
I started by using a pencil and sketching out the main design, and planning out in my head what I wanted to paint. After that, I used a fine-liner pen to do the main bulk of the design. Then I painted it, and did a few finishing touches to the design. When I was nearly finished, I realised that I probably should have done a few more cars to make the design look a bit more balanced. To be honest, there probably weren’t enough cars in different angles for me to sketch.
The whole design from start to finish, probably took me about 30-40 minutes to do. It isn’t really as details or interesting as I would have ideally liked – but never mind!
I think I will take as many pictures in London as I can, so that I can draw them later. It’s not as good as drawing en-plein air, but I think it will do just fine!
